Grand Blanc

Historic Grand Blanc Clock

Take just a step beyond the northern suburbs of Detroit and there is where you'll find open farmlands, soft rolling hills and a refreshing lifestyle for you and your family.

Founded in the 1830's by hard working families from western New York state's farming areas, Grand Blanc has inherited a legacy of determination and success that is apparent everywhere you look. Grand Blanc and its surrounding area has become a thriving, innovative and active community, while never losing sight of it's rich heritage.

Sound development practices have resulted in an exceptional quality of life for residents of Grand Blanc Township. Children benefit from top-rated public, private and parochial schools. Excellent police and fire protection as well as complete city services are provided to all residents of Grand Blanc.

Lifestyle is further enhanced by convenient shopping, recreational and entertainment opportunities. No less than seven golf courses, including the famous Warwick Hills Country Club, home of the Buick Open, are nearby. Mt. Holly ski area, The Pine Knob Music Theater, The Palace of Auburn Hills, and The Pontiac Silverdome are "just down the road a piece".  You'll enjoy the immediate convenience to I-75, linking you to all of metropolitan Detroit, including the Daimler-Chrysler Tech Center to the south, and all of the beauty and recreational facilities that northern Michigan has to offer.

City of Grand Blanc

Grand Blanc, which literally means "great white," was originally settled by Chippewa Indians. The name comes from a large French trader named Fisher, whom the Indians called Grand Blanc, or "great white." By 1823 pioneer families were settling on the abundant farmland and Grand Blanc Township became, in 1833, Genesee County's first unit of government. The railroad, which came in 1862, added more growth to the small community. The Village of Grand Blanc was the first in the state to consolidate its schools in 1904.

Grand Blanc is located in southeast Genesee County just a few miles south of Flint, Michigan. The township encompasses 36 square miles which surrounds the City of Grand Blanc. The city and township have a combined population of about 35,000 people. A four square mile area in the center of the township was incorporated in 1930 as the City of Grand Blanc. Today the two units of government work cooperatively to provide services for the entire community.
Grand Blanc residents enjoy such benefits as recreation activities, senior citizen services, McFarlen Public Library, Heritage Museum, and a highly rated school system.

Shopping and Recreation

Grand Blanc is known for hosting the world class Buick Open Golf Tournament at Warwick Hills held annually in August. The city and township are much sought after communities offering an abundance of golf courses, sprawling communities, and plenty of shopping! The business district downtown includes several unique restaurants, shopping malls, and sidewalk boutiques. Quaint  street lights and brick walkways make it a pleasant place to stroll and browse. Residents also enjoy swimming and boating activities on any one of numerous lakes in the Genesee County area.

Employment

Over 30 commercial developments are currently under construction in Grand Blanc. It is the home of the world headquarters for General Motors Service Parts Operations, as well as the award winning Genesys Regional Medical Center. Grand Blanc's close proximity to many major roadways provides an ideal location for travel to Lansing, the state's capital, as well as to North Oakland County, the automotive capital of the world.

Housing

Many residents prefer the short commute to these areas for two primary reasons - first, they enjoy all of the benefits that Grand Blanc has to offer, and second, housing is much more affordable when compared to other areas. Savings of $25,000 to $50,000 on comparable sized homes are not at all uncommon. Home owners are able to enjoy a higher standard of living and a greater quality of life by wisely choosing to invest in the Grand Blanc area, and in particular, in the Wakefield Woods community

Real Estate Tips
First Time Buyers >Inspection Contingencies

Many of today's purchase offers include a contingency clause that allows the buyers to hire a home inspector or professional expert to inspect the property. If there is a significant defect in the property, the buyer can cancel the contract without losing the earnest money deposit. Contingencies are excellent procedures that protects both the buyer and the seller.

The time period for inspection contingencies is negotiable. In most parts of the country, the buyers have about a week in which to cancel the contract if the structural inspection reveals a serious and consequential defect. The positive side to such contingencies is that the inspection usually addresses--and overcomes--the buyers' misgivings, and confirms their decision to move ahead with the purchase.
